Dermaplaning is a non-invasive exfoliation technique that involves using a sterile, surgical-grade scalpel to gently scrape off the outermost layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (commonly known as peach fuzz) from the surface of the face. This process reveals a smoother, brighter complexion and allows for better absorption of skincare products. It’s a quick, painless procedure, often performed by licensed aestheticians or dermatologists.
Dermaplaning can be combined with other facial treatments, such as gentle chemical peels or hydrating facials, to further enhance its effects. After dermaplaning, the skin is more receptive, allowing peels or masks to work more effectively. For example, following up with a mild chemical peel can help with deeper exfoliation, targeting acne, hyperpigmentation, or wrinkles. Hydrating masks or serums can then provide nourishment and moisture, leaving the skin looking plump and refreshed.
